SMALL ADS - 100 word story

I looked at the photo prompt for this week's Friday Fictioneers challenge and it led me along a path of loneliness and delusion.

PHOTO PROMPT © Connie Gayer

Lonely, handsome, solvent young bachelor looking for beautiful soulmate.

I am easy going, strong, funny and affectionate.
I live on a farm far away from the rat race.
My house is large and very beautiful and I need a woman to share it with.
You want to live in a quiet place? This is it.
You want to eat fresh vegetables? I have a kitchen garden.
You want to drink fine wine? I have a small vineyard.
You want to swim? I have built a natural plunge pool.
Come!
Escape your life and live the dream with me.

I hope you enjoyed this story and I look forward to your comments.

  3. There's disappointment in store, I fear. For both of them.

  4. That picture doesn't quite reflect his description, does it? Nicely spun tale Susan

    1. No, not quite. It's the sort of thing that can happen with the 'personal ads'! Thanks for commenting, Lynn.

  5. I got a bad feeling about that plunge pool. Also, wine is more fun when you don't have to wait for it to mature.

  6. The countryside is filled with bachelors.... all the women have fled to the cities...

    1. Ha ha - you might be right! (We have a few bachelor farmers down here in West Cork.) :)

  7. Great "pool."

And I'll bet this guy's dating site profile photo shows him twenty years younger and twenty pounds lighter!

  8. Won't she be surprised? Of course, her profile bio probably isn't accurate either.

    1. She might be a tad annoyed that he's called himself 'young' - but that will depend on her age! :)

  11. Sounds great but it sounds like a big move - I hope they get to know each other first before she moves in!

  15. Heck if I were a bunch of years younger, and weren't married to the best guy on the planet, I'd answer this! I don't feel that your story is melancholy at all. His words are very positive and hopeful!

    1. Ah, but is he being totally honest, Alicia?

  16. Great story! Using the small ad format really works here. He's got a silver tongue, I'll say that for him, and he cuts a heroic figure wielding that hillbilly back-hoe!

    2. A neat and witty construction on your part, Susan. And a man with his own vineyard? Where has he been all my life? I'm in ;)

    3. Thanks for commenting, Yellow Tiger. The thing is - is the vineyard, like his youth, a figment of his imagination?

  25. I suppose he doesn't want pity, but I can't help feeling sorry for him. His loneliness and desperation come through loud and clear.

Why do I suspect his 'natural plunge pool' to be rather unglamorous? ;-)

Really enjoyed your creative take on the prompt.
