I wasn't going to enter a Friday Fictioneers story today because I'm super busy with guests arriving to stay for a few days. However as soon as I saw the photo I knew what I had to write.
SUPERHERO
You think I'm a cartoon
character created in the 1930's?
Wrong!
Jerry discovered me
zooming around the family farm.
Fortunately he
understood the need for keeping my real self a secret. But he also
wanted to 'put me out there' and came up with the inspired idea of
writing me into a cartoon. Of course, he had to let Joe into the
secret. The costume was a figment of Joe's fertile imagination by the
way.
Jerry and Joe are long
gone, as are my Earth parents. But me? I live on. No more zooming
around the old farmstead though.
Hope you enjoyed this story and I look forward to your comments.

What exactly does a superhero do when he's collecting his pension?
ReplyDeleteGood question! I have no idea. :)
DeleteLaughing.
ReplyDeleteSuper story, Susan!
Thank you - and glad to hear it made you laugh.
DeleteDear Susan,
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know Clark is living a quiet life. He's inspired so many of us. ;) Fun story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Yes, time to hang up his imaginary costume. :)
DeleteInspired take on the prompt. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra - glad you liked it.
DeleteIt does look very 'Smallville'. Nicely done :-)
ReplyDeleteI thought 'Superman' the very instant I saw the photo, Iain.
DeleteNice take on the prompt. I'm sure he'll be around much longer than any of us. I just hopes he gets to zoom around a bit when nobody is watching - everyone needs some fun on occasion...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Trent. Maybe he'll go for the occasional 'zoom'. :)
DeleteSuperstory Susan! I hoped he was stll around so thanks for letting is know!
ReplyDeleteHere's mine!
Thanks, Keith. Yep, they're all around us. :)
DeleteA superhero who has survived the generations. Fun take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be a superhero otherwise, Linda. :)
DeleteLove the idea of real superheroes that got written into cartoons to hide their identity. As the saying goes, sometimes the best hiding place is the one in plain sight :)
ReplyDeleteIt certainly worked for him! :)
DeleteVery imaginative, Susan!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sascha. Glad you liked it. :)
DeleteLove the Superman story and it would be how he might see the world when speeding through the air. I thought of a time warp. Enjoy your guests!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the photo I immediately thought of Superman, Birgit. :)
DeleteI've always thought there was more truth to fiction than fiction.
ReplyDeleteYep, me too. :)
DeleteFun story, Susan! Love your creative take on the photo. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brenda. The story wrote itself.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteI loved that, Susan! So original.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how our writing brains throw up ideas, isn't it?
DeleteVery creative take. Glad you shared your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome, Violet. :)
DeleteSo many retired aliens around these days... :-)
ReplyDeleteI know, what is it about retired aliens? :)
DeleteIn a way this is rather sad - doomed to live forever and only able to zoom at night.
ReplyDeleteReally? I wonder why you think he can only zoom at night?
DeleteDid he age well? Nice take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteLost a bit of muscle tone, but otherwise pretty fit for an old geezer. :)
DeleteWhat an original take, Susan! A lovely place to retire.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dale. I wouldn't mind, myself! :)
DeleteMove over Clark Kent!
ReplyDeleteHe he - or is it Clark who is now living a quiet life?
DeleteThis was great and I see exactly how you got the inspiration. Well done, enjoy your guests and have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michael. I'm slightly surprised that mine is the only Superman story - it seemed so obvious to me. :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Superman or is it Supergirl, regardless everyone needs to retire one day. Hope you have a good weekend. Cheers. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan. Glad to know you enjoyed the story. (Superman)
Deleteglad you wrote this story. i truly enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comments - appreciate it. :)
DeleteWhat a fun take on the prompt! What I want to know is whether Lois Lane is still with him...
ReplyDeleteAh, well that would take at least another 100 words! :)
DeleteSo Clark had Jerry and Joe! A good version of the story.
ReplyDeleteYes, Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster were his cartoon creators. :)
DeleteThis was great ! Fun take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteRunning around the farm will contain lots of memories for Clark.
Thanks, Laurie. Delighted to hear that you enjoyed the story,
DeleteSo happy to be part of this fun inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks Dawn. Appreciate your kind comment.
DeleteA fun story! I suspect that most, if not all, fictional characters are based on real people to some extent.
ReplyDeleteHe he - you could be right! Thanks for commenting, Magarisa.
DeleteInteresting take on the prompt, super!
