THE
PERFECT BAND NAME
Izi
Googled Shakespeare quotes, searching for a band name.
'Sound
and Fury'? Too rock.
'Inconstant
Moon'? Too clever.
'Live
a Little'? Too
clichéd.
'Gilded
Butterflies'? Too girly.
'Pot
of Ale'? Too blokey.
She
sighed.
'Bloody
cat,' said Izi's mother.
'No. Too
gory.'
'That
wasn't a suggestion, Isabel. I'm feeding Jean Richardson's bloody cat...
again. They're going camping.'
'Why
agree to feed her cat if you don't like it?'
'Why,
Isabel, it's only neighbourly. Apparently their tent is so fancy
they've been practising how to erect it.'
Izi
looked out of the window and laughed. It was the perfect band name:
'Demolished'.
I hope you enjoyed this story and I look forward to your comments.

Dear Susan,
ReplyDeleteInteresting band name. I'll pass that onto my husband. The tent in the picture is what my husband and his impromptu band were playing under when they were rained out. Electronics and water don't mix. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Interesting that the real story was band based too! Thanks for commenting, Rochelle.
DeleteNovel take on the prompt. And concisely written too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandra. I have no idea where the idea sprang from!
DeleteInspiration can strike from the unlikeliest of sources! Good fun :-)
ReplyDeleteHe he - well, I think it's a better name than those quotes she was considering. Although 'bloody cat' may have worked too. :)
DeleteThis was great, Susan. I loved the progression :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dale. Glad you enjoyed it. :)
DeleteThere's no accounting for how the creative spark works
ReplyDeleteNo, you're quite right, Neil!
DeleteOh, good one! I thought at first maybe the cat was the one who wrecked the tent, but your take is better :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda - glad you liked the story.
DeleteOh that’s funny and love all these band names. Very funny
ReplyDeleteThanks, Birgit, it's great when people 'get' my sense of humour!
DeleteI always thought the perfect band name was The Fantastic Queefs or Cool Breeze Licks, but that's probably only because I used them in the book I'm writing.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very clever take on the prompt. I love the idea of Googling Shakespeare quotes to find a band name.
Oh, I like Cool Breeze Licks! Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated.
DeleteHa ha ha, so that's how bands come up with those bizarre names!
ReplyDeleteI've no idea really - but it seems possible. :)
DeleteYou created a clever story from the prompt. Great band name by the way!
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks Brenda. I initially called the band Demolished Tent, but decided Demolished on its own was better. :)
DeleteI prefer Bloody Cat!! Really funny take!
ReplyDeleteHa ha - thanks for appreciating my sense of humour!
DeleteLove it! Some of those band names might work too!
ReplyDeleteHe he. I agree. Any one of them would work depending on the band.
DeleteExcellent. Proves we can find inspiration anywhere. I also liked Bloody Cat for a band name!
ReplyDeleteIt's growing on me. Maybe I should copyright it!
DeleteI've often wondered how bands got their names! Did the Rolling Stones witness a landslide? Great take Susan.
ReplyDeleteNow you know, Keith! (Actually the Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song.) :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter once sang with a band called Deep in the Mix - where on earth did that come from?
ReplyDeleteAh, that's a good name! As a teenager I formed a duo with my friend. We thought we were being super cool and clever by calling ourselves De'Nimes after the birthplace of denim. :)
DeleteSmart story.
ReplyDeleteInteresting names.
Hope the band's compositions are loved & not 'demolished' by public :)
He he, only time will tell, Anita.
DeleteHee :-) Clever way to pick a band name too, even if non of the quote worked out.
ReplyDeleteI came up with the idea because Shakespeare has given us so many expressions. It's only when you dig a bit deeper that you realise just how much emanated from his plays. (Wouldn't be surprised if 'to dig deeper' is one of his!)
Deletebeing neighbourly, perhaps she could offer some suggestions on how to set up the tent for them too. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't think her mother's skills run to tent erecting! :)
DeleteThat bandname is not taken... amazing, there is at least a metal band called beautifully demolished
ReplyDeleteD'you know - I didn't even think to check if there was a real band out there called Demolished! :)
DeleteI really loved this Susan. It was hilarious and the band name was great.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Rowena
Wow, thanks for the lovely feedback, Rowena. :)
DeleteSo interesting & fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Appreciate your feedback. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! Very nice, Susan. Love the band name too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynn - glad you liked it. :)
DeleteSounds jammin!
ReplyDeleteHa ha - thanks for commenting, Dawn.
DeleteThat was funny, Susan. It seems putting up a tent is an art. Well done. :D --- Suzanne
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Suzanne. In my own (limited) experience, I never found tent erecting an easy thing! All those rods, ropes and pegs.
DeleteSusan! This was very cleverly written! Love the story and the leading dialogue. Fabulous
ReplyDeleteGlad to know you enjoyed the story! Appreciate your comments. :)
